Identify Unsupported Intune Apple Devices Easily

Microsoft Intune will stop supporting devices below iOS/iPadOS 17.0. The exact timing is not known, but they mention “shortly” after iOS/iPadOS 26 has been released.. which happened some weeks ago.

The fact that 17.0 is the new lowest supported version means that some devices in our tenant must be replaced unless they are capable of running 17.0 and beyond.

💡These two lists created by Apple can be used to manually identifying supported models:
iPhone models compatible with iOS 17 – Apple Support
iPad models compatible with iPadOS 17 – Apple Support

Identify unsupported Apple devices

Manually identifying unsupported devices in tenants with thousands of devices is time consuming so I created a script which will match your existing devices with the lists created by Apple and then generate a nice report. This will make it easy to identify unsupported devices in minutes instead of hours.

Feel free to modify the script as needed, it can be used as a template to create reports based upon any data from Intune.

💡The registered app and user running the script must have at least: DeviceManagementManagedDevices.Read.All

  1. Download the script: Intune/Scripts Github
  2. Add tenant and client ID to row 35 and 36
  3. The script will install the required modules if needed. See row 18-24
  4. Run the script and have a look at the nice reports. The script will create one report for unsupported iPhones and one for iPadOS. These devices should be replaced.

💡Feel free to modify row 145 & 146 to create a report style as per your need. The script has been set to create reports with a green/light green theme.

Keeping our devices on supported operating systems is an ongoing challenge. While we’ve focused on phasing out the last of our Windows 10 installations, it’s easy to overlook our mobile devices.
